Karen Thompson, born in 1973, hails from the coastal town of South Shields. Her journey as a ceramic artist took a significant turn in 2004 when she successfully completed ceramics qualifications at Kensington & Chelsea College. Four years later, in 2008, Thompson graduated with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from Bath Spa University.
Thompson’s artistic prowess in ceramics is characterized by a harmonious blend of historical and contemporary influences. Her creative expressions often delve into social and political realms, exploring them with a potent mix of subversion, satire, and humor. This unique approach breathes life into her creations, which resonate with viewers on multiple levels.
Recognised for her talent in ceramics, Thompson’s work has found a place in various private and public collections including; The Crafts Council, The Arts Council, York Art Gallery, Scarborough Museums Trust, Bath Spa University, and Crescent Arts, which are just a few esteemed institutions that hold her pieces.
Currently, Thompson calls Scarborough, located in the scenic region of North Yorkshire, her home and workplace. It is here that she continues to pursue her artistic endeavours.
