Rebecca Styles was born in Yorkshire, where her early connection to the landscape was shaped by the North Yorkshire Moors, and holidays spent on the Isle of Arran. She studied at Bradford College of Art before completing a Fine Art degree at Falmouth College of Art in Cornwall.

Her practice has long been inspired by wild and unspoilt places across the British Isles, including the Outer Hebrides and the far reaches of Cornwall. Working primarily en plein air, she often incorporates raw earth pigments gathered from her surroundings, creating work that is deeply rooted in place.

Rebecca’s first exhibition with 108 Fine Art was held in 2024 as part of ‘Art in Conversation I,’ a joint show highlighting contemporary painting as part of the Andrew Stewart Award. Her contribution was widely praised for its sensitivity and painterly use of natural materials.

Between June – August 2025, she will exhibit her first solo exhibition at the gallery, presenting Four Seasons: A Year at Thorp Perrow Arboretum. It features 40 paintings developed over the course of a year-long residency at Thorp Perrow in North Yorkshire, documenting the shifting atmosphere, structure, and colour of the landscape through the seasons.

Her process fuses observation with emotional resonance, and her paintings have been described as intimate responses to time, memory and nature’s resilience. As Rebecca Styles puts it, her works are “painted love letters” – acts of exchange between feeling and place.

Rebecca Styles is the recipient of a VACMA Award and a Creative Scotland Artist Bursary for her work with traditional paint-making. Her work is held in private collections in the UK, Europe, America and Australia.
