Rebecca Styles’ ‘Four Seasons’ Opens to Acclaim at 108 Fine Art, Harrogate

This June, 108 Fine Art opened the doors to Four Seasons: A Year at Thorp Perrow Arboretum, the much-anticipated solo exhibition by British painter Rebecca Styles. The exhibition, which runs until 30 August 2025, presents forty paintings produced during Rebecca Styles’ year-long residency at the historic Thorp Perrow Arboretum in North Yorkshire.

The opening was met with great enthusiasm, with collectors, press, and supporters at the gallery to view the artist’s latest body of work. Among the guests were Mr and Mrs Ropner, representing Thorp Perrow’s current custodians, the Ropner family.

Rebecca Styles’ paintings offer an intimate and elemental journey through the seasons at Thorp Perrow. Working en plein air and using natural pigments gathered from the Arboretum itself, her works reveal the evolving character of the landscape – from the delicate freshness of spring to the quiet austerity of winter.

The exhibition has already received thoughtful press coverage. TheYorkshire Post published a striking photograph of the artist at work.Yorkshire Living Magazine, with an article written by Catherine Turnbull and curated by Mercedes Smith of Fine Art Communications, offered an in-depth feature on Styles’ process and practice.

Local media in Harrogate have also embraced the show wholeheartedly, including Graham Chalmers of the Harrogate Advertiser called it “the gallery’s most beautiful exhibition,” in his article: Independent Harrogate gallery’s ‘most beautiful’ exhibition shines light on glory of Thorp Perrow Arboretum. The Stray Ferret and Your Harrogate have also featured the show prominently.

A Living Landscape

Founded in the early 20th century by Colonel Sir Leonard Ropner, Thorp Perrow Arboretum is one of the finest collections of trees in the North of England, encompassing over 100 acres of historic parkland and holding five National Plant Collections. Learn more about the arboretum’s remarkable history at www.thorpperrow.com, and follow Thorp Perrow on Instagram.

Rebecca Styles’ exhibition honours this legacy by translating the spirit of the landscape into painterly form. Her use of raw pigments and her emotional engagement with nature result in works that feel both grounded and transcendent.
