To mark the anniversary of what would have been the artist’s 90th year, we are delighted to announce a major exhibition of the artists works at 108 Fine Art. ‘Reflections’ will trace the development of Joash Woodrow’s life, through his paintings, drawings, sculpture and collage works.
In the creation of his art works Joash would often use scraps of material and board found on his walks around North Leeds. In his collage pictures he would frequently incorporate torn pieces of musical scores to represent buildings, animals and landscapes.
Research is now underway to try and identify the musical scores that Joash would have found around the house, and incorporated into his art works; and to discover if there were any particular links between the scores and their association with individual pictures.
During the past three months 108 Fine Art has worked with Matt Dawson a composer, and producer at HMS Studios in York, to unravel the musical components used in the artists work. So far several obscure pieces of music have been deciphered including Leducs, – Le Chatelain: Fantaisie a la Valse for Piano and Bertini’s, – 24 Studies for Piano, Opus 32. Michaela Tomanikova performed a selection of ‘found’ musical works recently at 108
